    Jewish Heritage Tour

    DELHI – AGRA – JAIPUR – MUMBAI – ALIBAG / NAVGAON – KOCHI – MUMBAI

    DAY 01

    Arrive in Delhi. Traditional Indian welcome on arrival at airport. Transfer to hotel for overnight stay.

    DAY 02

    Morning, sightseeing of Old and New Delhi including Jama Masjid, Red Fort, Humayun’s Tomb, Parliament House, India Gate, and Qutab Minar.

    Evening, visit Judah Hyam Synagogue in New Delhi (which was built in 1956), next to the Jewish cemetery.
    It is the only functioning Synagogue in the capital city of India. Judah Hyam Hall is a place of worship for the Jews in the city. It is a place where Delhi’s Jewish community celebrates all social and religious festivals. Judah Hyam Hall also serves as a center for Jewish studies.This synagogue is the only one where men and women can sit together for services. Overnight stay at hotel.

    DAY 03

    Morning, depart for Agra. Check in at hotel. Visit the Agra Fort and the magnificent “monument of love” – the Taj Mahal – by sunset. Overnight stay at hotel.

    DAY 04

    Morning, depart for Jaipur, visiting the “forgotten city” of Fatehpur Sikri – built by Emperor Akbar. Proceed onward to Jaipur. Overnight stay at hotel.

    DAY 05

    Morning, visit the high mountain fortress of Amber Fort, with an elephant ride to the top of the fort. Later, city sightseeing including a visit to the Observatory and City Palace and Museum. Time for shopping. Return to hotel and relax.

    DAY 06

    Morning, transfer to airport for flight to Mumbai. After check in at hotel, proceed for sightseeing tour of Mumbai city. Overnight stay at hotel.

    DAY 07

    After breakfast, proceed for excursion to Elephanta Caves dating back to the 5th century. Cross over to the caves (10 kilometers away) by motor launch. Afternoon at leisure. Shabbat service and dinner at the Fort Synagogue. Overnight stay at hotel.

    DAY 08

    Day at leisure for you to see Mumbai city on your own. Shabbat service and dinner at the Fort Synagogue. Overnight stay at hotel.

    DAY 09

    Morning, excursion by surface or Catamaran to Alibag and the surrounding village, Navgaon, about 22 miles southwest across a gray-green harbour from Mumbai — home to what was once a thriving and vibrant Jewish community known as the Bene Israel. So many Jews once lived here, that, in fact, this dirt road is called Israel Lane. The facades of many of the houses along it still bear stars of David and Hebrew lettering.
    Return to hotel for overnight stay.

    DAY 10

    Transfer to airport for flight to Kochi. Evening, attend a performance of the famous Kathakali dance and Kerala Martial Arts – “Kelaripayattu”. Overnight stay at hotel.

    DAY 11

    Sightseeing tour of Kochi city, visiting the Dutch Palace, Chinese Fishing Nets, St. Thomas Church. Later, a visit to the Synagogue and Jew Town in Mattancherry, which is home to 20 odd Jewish families who still live in India. Mostly old timers, they chose to stay on even after the creation of Israel and the immigration by most of the younger generation of Jews to the Promised Land. The Synagogue dates back to the 17th century and has pretty patterned floor tiles that were brought in from China. The thick aroma of spices hangs in the air and the street is dotted with tiny stalls selling curios (closed on Fridays and Saturdays). Meet with members of the Jewish community. Overnight stay at hotel.

    DAY 12

    Morning, at leisure to enjoy your hotel. Late afternoon, transfer to airport for flight to Mumbai to connect to international flight.
